Meet GEMMA

Gemma’s background is in skincare, where her instinct for care, detail, and creating a calming atmosphere truly began. As the founder of The Base, she brings together everything she has learned from experiencing many different retreats across the world — each unique, each impactful — and has curated the very best elements into one thoughtfully designed experience.

Drawing on these global influences, Gemma has handpicked exceptional staff, skilled therapists, and a schedule that blends movement, nature, rest, and nourishment. Her vision is simple: to immerse guests in nature, give them space for their minds to settle, time to re-energise, and the comfort of knowing that everything is taken care of.

Gemma is passionate about creating the perfect balance between activity and deep relaxation, ensuring guests leave feeling reset, reconnected to themselves, and held in a space where they can truly exhale. With her eye for detail and her warm, uplifting energy, she brings a sense of ease, fun, and quiet magic to every retreat.

Meet Rachel

Rachel Woolford brings warmth, energy and over a decade of fitness expertise to our retreat. After completing her Economics degree and gaining experience with Sweaty Betty in New York, she trained as a PT and went on to open boutique fitness studios across the North, North Studio known for their strong community feel and motivating sessions.

Trained in HIIT, personal training, Pilates and Reformer, Rachel blends challenge with encouragement in everything she teaches. She loves pushing her own limits too — from marathons and Hyrox competitions to her newest passion, wild swimming.

In 2024, Rachel won The Apprentice with Lord Sugar, showcasing her drive, leadership and entrepreneurial spirit.

Well-travelled, people-focused and passionate about movement for everyone, Rachel brings fun and an inspiring reset to any retreat space.

Meet Stacey

Stacey has spent years sharing her gift for yoga and mindfulness around the world — from South Africa and Greece to Marrakesh and America. Her calm, open nature instantly puts people at ease, and her gentle guidance helps others reconnect with their bodies and inner peace. Having run a successful yoga business in the South before relocating North, she brings both wisdom and warmth to everything she does.

A Typical Day at The Base

Morning Circle

Ease gently into the day with a guided intention-setting circle embedded in nature.

Communal Breakfast

Local, fresh and wholesome produce to fuel your morning.

Movement Session

It could be a dynamic fitness class or an invigorating hike through the surrounding hills and nature-rich landscapes.

Afternoon Brunch

A beautiful, nourishing group brunch to enjoy together.

Free Time

When the pace softens this is where restoration takes centre stage. You may book a relaxing massage, start your journal or simply lounge by the pool.

Evening Reset

As the heat of the day fades, we gently reconvene. This could be for light movement, yoga or relaxing in a sound bath.

Group Dinner

Dinner is a relaxed communal experience, always wholesome and nutrition focused, finished with herbal teas.

NIGHT TIME

As the sun sets, the evenings invite deep rest and connection: conversations under the starlit sky, reflection and letting the day land gently.
